I Can't Believe I Didn't notice Before

I just saw a Stephan King quote where he said he wanted 'The Stand' to be an American Lord of the Rings.

Now that it's been mentioned to me; Jesus, it's as obvious as the Lovecraft influence in all of King's work, or his Magic Negro hangup. I could have noticed it before, but I didn't.
